The EP is the final installment in the band’s ‘these are not your dreams’ trilogy. The release follows their ARIA-nominated albums Made of Breath Only (2017) and Love of Cartography (2014).

‘Serenity Now’ continues the theme of experimentation across these releases, as it features a prominent lead vocal over the song's emo & electronica tinged music. With lyrics penned and sung by guitarist Otto Wicks-Green, it’s another foray into traditional lead vocal territory for the usually entirely instrumental sleepmakeswaves. It's also a return towards the more delicate and lilting passages they were known for in their early days, before breaking out as a full-blown rock touring outfit over the past few years.

From bassist Alex Wilson:

'Not an Exit' is very much a product of the pandemic. Strict social distancing in NSW (our home state) meant that we couldn't meet up to play live and work on songs, making loud noise as we usually do. Artists will often say that limitation can be the friend of creativity. In that spirit, we decided to make an EP based around limitation; no big live drum kit, no distorted riffs and all work done remotely from our three home studios. It was an approach we'd wanted to try for a while, yet it ended up being unpredictable reality that gave us the push.

The EP closer and title track for the trilogy 'these are not your dreams' is a dark electronic instrumental jam that showcases the understated production the band dived into on this record.

All music was entirely self produced, recorded & mixed by the band. Rather than following a conventional release pattern, the band have opted to release this collection of tracks as a series of 3 EPs during 2020, which will then be released physically in August as part of the ‘these are not your dreams’ record.
