Lune Asea release new track 'Outlier' feat. members of Karnivool & Sleep Parade

From the arid yet prolifically fruitful land of Australia comes yet another progressive supergroup.

LUNE ASEA (pronounced ‘lunar sea’) is the new project from Karnivool's Jon Stockman, Sleep Parade & The Occupants' Leigh Davies, legendary tour manager Adam Perry & one of Perth's most prolific guitarists, Ben Elphick.

Featuring drums from another Karnivool stalwart Steve Judd, their debut single ‘Outlier’ recalls the classic era of Australian modern prog, represented by COG, The Butterfly Effect, Dead Letter Circus and Karnivool, whilst ushering their sound into the 2020s with production on a grand scale.

Leigh Davies' vocals soar into Ian Kenny, Kim Benzie and Flynn Gower territory and settle comfortably in their own space whilst Elphick's guitars shimmer across the entire spectrum. The track also showcases Stockman's talents on keys, which add a layer of atmosphere and intrigue that permeate the composition.

Production? Of course, it's Forrester Savell.

It's at once uplifting, inspiring, hopeful and makes you yearn for more of a sound and era that has made an indelible mark on the Australian rock music psyche.

It's exciting too. Because yes, it's in the same echelon as the greats - but this is only the beginning.

Jon Stockman says:“Outlier contains a good mix of the songwriting elements that we all collectively identify with. When we wrote it, we felt it showcased how we wanted to express ourselves musically in terms of the ‘dark side of the lune.’ It’s not one aspect and requires combining a continual driving pulse of rhythmic energy, re-imagining traditional song structures, exploring sound design and finding sonic layers that speak to us from a nostalgic point in our own history, and find a darker element that has jilted moments that are slightly more whimsical than sad. Looking forward to showcasing the yin to this yang.”

'Outlier' was premiered on triple j's The Racket with Lochlan Watt to a positive reception from listeners.

Wall of Sound have already reviewed the track, saying: Outlier’ is an absolute winner in all imaginable facets and I simply cannot wait to hear more from this band. There is something very special happening here.

‘Outlier’ is out on all platforms now
