More about Closure in Moscow:

Closure In Moscow have received critical acclaim internationally for their stellar live performance and avant-garde sound in the decade plus since they formed in Melbourne, Australia. After their debut EP The Penance and The Patience thrust them onto the international stage in 2008, their debut full-length First Temple saw the band breaking in the United States upon its release in 2009 and has since seen them become regarded as one of the most beloved acts in the world of progressive rock.

The young group experienced the heady success of a band on the rise, relocating to the United States to pursue successive gruelling tours across the continent, including a coveted spot on the Warped Tour, before finally returning home to Australia for festival appearance and headline tours at the tail end of a massive twelve months. With little respite, what followed was further heavy touring – across Australia, the UK and Europe, Japan, over two years in support of a record that just kept growing.

Frontman Chris de Cinque says:

For our debut we did everything you're not meant to do to make it happen.

Cars? Sold.

Jobs? Quit.

Producer we liked from the US? Flown all the way to Australia.

We just wanted to make something as special as we could without really knowing what we were doing.

This debut was dubbed an "albumette" insead of an EP on it's release. You could call that pretentious. You could also call it part of a lofty unflinching vision, borne from the naivety of youth.

Either way, this is what kicked it all off...

Available for the first time on vinyl, with updated art true to the original.

- Chris

The band’s original drummer Beau McKee reflected on this time:

When the ‘The Penance & The Patience’ dropped in Australia, we started getting a lot of tour offers, particularly for U.S. supports in Australia and overseas. Although we had a strong EP under our belt, we realised that seasoned musicians who have done a lot of touring know how to bring a real live show. This certainly kicked us up the ass and we started really honing our live show by time the album was ready to be made. ‘The Penance…’ really helped set up our path forward.

Guitarist Manny Zenneli adds:

Our lives changed overnight. Every day was a new crowd/new city or country, it was so crazy. I’m really grateful for the entire experience, it was a really special time in the bands progression and we grew a lot from it, both as musicians and people.

Upon completion of the First Temple touring cycle, the band entered a brief hiatus. Finally, after a period of hibernation and much-needed reinvigoration, the band’s long-awaited follow up gestated in the form of a quirky concept album: ‘Pink Lemonade’ was conceived as a project to explore the band’s penchant for the absurd and to encapsulate the yang to their previous yin.

The record again pushed them back onto the treadmill of touring and promoting across Australia, Japan, North America, the UK & Europe. Following high profile tours with Coheed & Cambria, Protest The Hero, The Fall of Troy, MEW & The Dillinger Escape Plan, the band began working on their a third full-length album – and were in the midst of production when the pandemic struck, enforcing lockdowns in their hometown of Melbourne for weeks at a time throughout the past year.

Still, progress has been made…and with the as-yet untitled new album on the way in 2022, now is a perfect time to introduce yourself to the world of Closure in Moscow – with their jaw-dropping musicianship and exuding a positivity like no other, by their own admission, this band is here to melt faces and take you to the moon.
